Vinland One was fermented with an indigenous strain of yeast from a Massachusetts-grown plum. After much microbe hunting we chose this strain, Winnisimmet, or “Winnie” based on many brewing criteria but were most impressed by the entirely unique aromatic profile and flavors reminiscent of the dark fruit from which it came.
The Vinland Series works towards restoring the unique characteristics of indigenous brewing—using native yeast from the surrounding air and land. It’s named for a historical region found in Northeastern America where the Vikings emerged from the cold barrens of the north and discovered they could once again create mystic brews like this one.
